A DRINK-driver who caught the attention of police when he pulled out in front of them with his number plate hanging off, turned out to be more than three times the limit.

Burnley magistrates were told how father-of-three Lee Joseph Pickering, 31, appeared to be pulling quickly round corners when he was spotted in the town.

He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to the police station. There he gave two tests, the lowest showing 114mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Pickering, 31, of Mary Street, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol.

He was given 100 hours community service and banned from driving for two years, with a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs. Rachel Griffiths, for Pickering, said his court appearance had been a shock and disappointment to him.
