PENDLE Council has introduced a new way for its customers to pay their bills making it much more flexible and convenient.

From Monday, March 31, payments will no longer be accepted at Colne’s Council shop, based in the Town Hall.

But customers can pay their council bills and invoices in Post Offices and local shops which provide the free PayPoint service.

Sharon Matthews, customer services team leader, said: “With more than 10 PayPoint locations in the Colne area alone, this will make paying bills more convenient and flexible.

“Many of our residents already pay this way because it gives them a choice of where to pay.”

Coun Linda Crossley, who oversees Pendle Council’s finances, said: “We recognise that some of our customers prefer to pay their bills in cash and many have done so for many years.

“But there are other ways to pay and cash is now one of the least common.

“The decision to no longer accept payments followed a close look at how much it was used versus the cost of keeping the cash office.”
