A SECOND man has fallen to his death from Colne’s railway viaduct within 10 months.

But mystery surrounds the identity of the latest victim, who is believed to have plunged from the bridge onto Knotts Lane on Sunday.

He was found by a passer-by at around 8pm but despite paramedics being alerted it was found he had suffered fatal injuries.

Det Insp Jez Holland, of Lancashire Police, said the man’s death was not being treated as suspicious but assistance was needed in identifying him.

He is white, around 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, medium to heavy build, short dark hair receding slightly with slight greying.

He was wearing glasses, blue coloured trousers or jeans, dark shoes, white socks, a blue and white fine checked shirt, grey jumper and a brown waist-length jacket with a zip up the front.

Mr Holland said: “We don’t suspect any foul play is involved in this tragic incident but we are hoping that someone will be able to help us identify this man and take us a step closer to finding out who he is and exactly what happened to him.

“While he doesn’t match any of our missing person’s records he is someone’s father, brother or uncle and surely someone, somewhere is missing him and wondering what has happened to him.

“It’s also likely that he is someone’s neighbour, possibly living alone and it may be that he hasn’t been seen by those who know him.”

Police have also not ruled out he may have travelled to Colne before the fall. People able to assist shoud call 101 and quote log number 249 of March 16.
