A DAD-of-two who assaulted his wife grabbed her around the neck and pulled her hair after hurling a wine bottle at the door, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how alcohol dependent Brendan Morris, 30, then headbutted the walls during the trouble.

The hearing was told Morris, who had attacked victim Wendy Taylor before, was said to have struck during one of the on/off couple’s regular drink and darts sessions after the children have been put to bed.

He was alleged to have tapped her on the knee to put her off her stroke when she was about to throw a dart.

Jobless Morris, of Hargrove Avenue, Padiham, admitted assault by beating and £200 damage on February 24.

He was given a 12-month community order with supervision, an alcohol treatment programme and was ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs. Morris was also handed a three-month restraining order, banning him from going within 100 metres of his wife’s address.
