E-cigarette ruling welcomed by East Lancashire MEP

Burnley and Pendle Citizen: E-cigarette ruling welcomed by East Lancashire MEP E-cigarette ruling welcomed by East Lancashire MEP

NEW Brussels rules to ensure electronic cigarettes can be sold as freely as their tobacco alternatives have been welcomed by East Lancashire Euro-MP Chris Davies.

Overruling national governments, the European Parliament defeated proposals to classify e-cigarettes as medicines.

Instead, they insisted that e-cigarettes with a nicotine content of 20mg/l or under should be regarded as consumer products.

Liberal Democrat Mr Davies said the new rules bring e-cigarettes, produced by a number of East Lancashire firms, into the mainstream of business.

He said: “This is a compromise that won’t please everyone, but it'’s a huge improvement on the e-cig ban that was threatened.

“We don't yet know the long term consequences of using e-cigs, but it must be likely they will be healthier than tobacco.”

Are e-cigs any safer?

Why not just give up instead of looking mildly retarded, like you're playing a tiny steaming flute.

But he voted for the restrictions. Does he mean that he made the biggest mistake of his political life maybe?

I don't understand this. Mr Davies voted that e-cigs should be devalued and restricted, and that people should continue to die. Why is he saying that he didn't?

"NEW Brussels rules to ensure electronic cigarettes can be sold as freely as their tobacco alternatives"

I'm sorry but isn't that a load of rubbish? Tobacco is not sold freely for one, it's heavily restricted and taxed.

And for two, the TPD was nothing to do with selling ecigs 'freely'. As I understand it. the most effective ecigs will be banned, for all intents and purposes', from 2016.

Maybe the Telegraph could do a follow up on what the TPD actually means for ecigs rather than just quoting some piffle from an MP?

who knows, but opinion, even from experts think even if they arent safe that they are safer than tobacco. as for your other comment, you do realise that it is an opinion what people look like. just like mine of how you sound. just saying.

The e-cig is cleaner around people, it does not stink like normal fags, and people even smells better when they walk past you or stand talking to you,
When you smoke you do not realise what other people smell from you, but when you stop smoking that`s when it hits you and you then ask yourself, did i really smell that bad? the answer was yes.
Since the e-cig has come about thousands of people are using them and they have made a big difference to when your out & about amonst others.
At the end of the day look at what money has been saved from not buying an £8 packet of fags.
