LANCASHIRE police are looking for new special constable recruits.

A recrutiment event will be held at Greenbank Police Station at 7pm today to offer information to those thinking of starting a career as an officer.

There are currently over 400 specials working in the county. They are unpaid volunteers, who have the same powers as regular police officers and wear the same uniform.

They carry out patrols, police events and take part in crime reduction projects, working to cut crime and anti-social behaviour.

Specials coordinator Nigel Walker said: “This recruitment evening is open to anyone from across the county who is interested in a career in policing with Lancashire Constabulary.

“The work for specials is wide ranging.

“Being a special constable also offers an insight into working for the force and many decide to go on and pursue a career as a police officer.”
