A MAN with almost 200 previous offences on his record, is back behind bars after flouting an ASBO.

Drug addict Jason Gorton, 38, was banned from entering the boundary of any home in Burnley without the owner's permission, but was out in the early hours planning to steal and was spotted in a man's yard.

Julian Goode, prosecuting, told the town’s crown court the 24-month ASBO was imposed on August 23, 2012. On October 24 a home owner on Piccadilly Square, Burnley, spotted a man in his yard.

The man ran off when police arrived and was found in a yard on Ellis Street, which breached the order.

He was searched and was found with gloves. Nearby officers found a screwdriver, battery pack and torch.

The hearing was told when Gorton, who was on licence from an attempted robbery sentence, was arrested, he told police they planted the items and denied they were his.

Gorton, of Girvan Grove, Burnley, admitted two counts of failing to comply with an ASBO and one charge of going equipped for theft. He was jailed for six months.

Mr Goode said of the 189 previous offences that were on Gorton’s record, 54 were for theft.

Mark Stuart, for Gorton, said: “He has been back in custody since 24 October.”
