PARALYMPIC star Oscar Pistorius has said he is ‘consumed with sorrow’ over the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who he shot dead at his home a year ago.

The six-time sprint champion faces trial next month for the murder of the 29-year-old model and reality TV star, whose mother June was brought up in Blackburn.

Pistorius, 27, a double amputee known as Blade Runner, denies the charges and says he shot Ms Steenkamp three times accidentally, thinking she was an intruder at his home in Pretoria, South Africa.

Pistorius' trial is due to begin on March 3s. Ms Steenkamp’s family said last week that her mother June would attend the trial.
