FRESH hopes have emerged over restoring Pendle’s second household waste recycling centre following a review.

County councillors have now recommended making extra provisions for the borough after a cabinet working group was set up to assess the issue.

More than 4,000 signatures have been collected by Pendle Central county councillor Dorothy Lord after the Regent Street household waste site closed in early 2012.

Coun Lord said: “I am very pleased with the progress we have made on this, especially given the cutbacks which are being made. And I’m grateful to the working group for listening to us about the need for a recycling centre in this part of Pendle.”

The new site, which may be smaller than its predecessor and have reduced opening hours, is expected to be in the Colne area but an exact location has not yet been finalised, the Lancashire Telegraph unders- tands.

County councillor Janice Hanson, cabinet member for waste, said: “I'm very grateful to the councillors on the working group for providing direction on how they'd like to see our recycling facilities develop.

“Their recommendations call for additional services for people in Pendle and Wyre to recycle household waste to be provided at the earliest opportunity.”

Recycling centres in Colne, Padiham, Great Harwood, Langho and Longridge have closed in recent years.
