Pendle budget branding defended

Burnley and Pendle Citizen: The Lib Dems said the scheme, which would see new signs and branding for the borough, was a waste of money. The Lib Dems said the scheme, which would see new signs and branding for the borough, was a waste of money.

A LEADING Tory councillor in Pendle has hit back at Lib Dems’ criticism of a new ‘Brand Pendle’ scheme.

The Lib Dems said the scheme, which would see new signs and branding for the borough, was a waste of money.

But Conservative councillor Paul White, executive member for economic development, enterprise and growth, said: “They just don’t get it one bit. They have called this initiative, which has a budget of zero but will see growth in Pendle, an outrageous waste of money.

“They say they don’t support the concept. Who in their right mind does not support the concept of increasing jobs, attracting business, promoting our area to the whole of the north of England?”

Council leader Joe Cooney said: “It’s about us creating an initiative that says to people outside of Pendle that we have so much to offer. It’s a great place to start and grow a business.”

Actually LibDems do get it. That is why we don't support it. We have worked so hard to try to get re-growth in Colne (I am a Colne Councillor) and we did that without reverting to silly sound bites. Another reason why I am against it is that I object to Pendle Hill being replaced by a faceless sillouette promoting the Alma Inn and other Conservative Party Supporting businesses. To me Pendle Borough is very well represented by Pendle Hill. No business person in their right mind would decide to invest in Pendle just because of a daft promotion at the entry to the borough. They would invest because Pendle has potential in many areas: industrial heritage, a youth hostel, Pendle Hill, the Pendle Witches, great artists, great sports people including John Connelly, Steven Burke, Natalie Haythornthwaite, Sadie Mitchell and Dave Ryding. On top of this we have our In Bloom successes, authors, artists, a famous Blues Festival and so much more. Me thinks this is more about egos being massaged than about caring for our Borough.

Any attempt at making Pendle a better place to live and work should be welcomed, particularly when there is little to no cost...

Also, unless I have completely misread the information I saw on Facebook about this, Pendle Hill is not being replaced at all. So I don't know why Ann Kerrigan is saying that? Perhaps she hasn't read the document??

In fact I have just re-read Ann's comments above... They really don't make any sense... Good job she's standing down in May!

At first glance, I wasn't impressed with this as a brand but when you read the whole branding package and the way it is being rolled out I quite like the concept. I have a strong design education and I'm always looking to the cutting edge so for me it feels a bit timid but I think the branding does a good job at encompassing the thoughts, ideals and aspirations of all the people who work, live and play in Pendle. Oh and it cost NOTHING? If that's true then WOW, well done!

If it costs nowt and helps out its worth a shout...

A new sign a day helps Pendle on its way, every little helps and its cheaper than Asda price...

Grow up people and work together for a change instead playground antics and handbags at dawn....
