RESIDENTS in Nelson who have been badly affected by school runs look set to be given funding to repair flagstones outside their homes.

Parents at St John Southworth RC Primary have been using the likes of Cobden Street and South View as drop-off points before and after classes.

But vehicles are often left on footpaths – resulting in the pavements becoming cracked and damaged.

Now a £16,500 scheme has been drawn up by Coun Julie Henderson, on behalf of three properties in the two streets, to redress the balance.

If Nelson area committee agrees next Monday then £12,000 will be spent on highways works near the gable end of 17 Cobden Street and 7 South View.

Another £1,000 will be earmarked for the pavement outside 22 Cobden Street, and between £2,300 and £3,500 will go on replacing damaged flags outside 17 Cobden Street, depending on whether they are ultimately paved over or replaced with yorkstone flags.
