DOZENS of patients were treated at Burnley’s new Urgent Care Centre yesterday after it opened its doors for the first time.

The 24-hour unit dealt with 71 patients between 8am and 4pm, but is expected to see about 140 each day.

The first patient through the door was 13-year-old Harry Wintersgill, from Barrowford.

Harry had a recurrent pain in his side and was feeling sick.

His mum Tracy said he was being monitored to discover what the problem was.

She added: “We’ve been pleased with the treatment so far.

“This new building is a big improvement on the old unit.

“It’s a really lovely environment, really well set out and well-equipped with a nice separate waiting area for children.”

The £9 million facility is for the treatment of illnesses and injuries which are not life threatening but still need treating quickly, such as suspected broken bones and fractures, minor head injuries, bad cuts and wounds, bites and stings and minor burns.”
