KRISTAN Bromley may be 41, but he isn’t letting age stop him as he prepares for a fourth Winter Olympics.

The Rossendale star will be competing in the skeleton in Sochi and is bidding to add an Olympic medal to a collection that already includes World Championship gold, European Championship gold and World Cup gold.

He became the first man in history to win all three in the same year during a sensational 2008 season.

And after a brief loss of form he is back to his best ahead of his Russian test, where he is hoping for a top-10 performance and an outside shot at the medals.

“Ever since I started the sport of skeleton, my goal has been to try and win a medal in every major competition in the sport of skeleton.

“I have been fortunate to have had a career where I have achieved most of these goals.

“I have one goal left – the Olympic dream! This has always been my biggest challenge and currently holds my total focus. All I can do is try my best.”

Bromley, who has an Engineering Degree from Nottingham University which led to him being given the nickname Dr Ice, first began competing in 1996 having worked on designing sleds before he started going downhill on them.

Bromley, who is a former Bacup and Rawtenstall pupil, rode motocross as a youngster before heading to university and finding his calling in skeleton.

“The sport chose me,” Bromley added. “I started on a technical programme with BAe and realised that it would help with designing it if I could do the sport, so I had a go, found I had a knack for it and six years later I'm in the Olympics.”

Bromley will be joined in Sochi by his long-term partner Shelley Rudman.
