PENDLE peer Tony Greaves has called for the Liberal Democrat party to appoint a ‘mediator’ after it suspended former chief executive Chris Rennard from its House of Lords group.
The action followed his refusal to apologise over sexual harassment claims as demanded by leader Nick Clegg.
It means Lord Rennard cannot represent the party at Westminster pending disciplinary proceedings.
Lord Rennard said he felt “regret” if he had unintentionally caused any women “hurt, embarrassment or upset” but would not formally apologise.
Lord Greaves said: “I think we need to appoint a mediator and conciliator between Chris and Nick Clegg to sort this once a for all.
“Otherwise there is going to be a lot of bitterness and anger whatever happens.”
