A ‘DRUNK’ man was taken to hospital this morning after falling 20ft from a bridge in Barrowford.

Fire crews were called to the scene near the Old Bridge Inn, in Gisburn Road, as paramedics struggled to reach the man, thought to be in his 40s.

He had fallen on to the Pendle Water embankment.

Nelson firefighters were able to rescue him using ropes and found the man to be conscious.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital to be checked for head and spinal injuries.

They said he had been with some friends who alerted the emergency services.

The incident happened at about 1am. It is not known how he fell.

No sympathies for the drunk lets hope the bill for ambulance and fire services sobers him up. But I doubt very much he will get one. Any alcohol related emergency services incident should be charged the person then might think twice or not be able to fund there next binge!

Does this website, run by the local newspaper, not have access to a photographer or an archive of local photos.
Whenever a fire/arson is reported we get a photo of a fire engine.
If it's a police incident we get a fantastic, awe inspiring shot of a bit of "Police incident : do not cross" tape and if it's an accident we get a shot of an ambulance. Court cases are introduced with a shot outside the courts or even a gavel.
For suck's fake give us a break. It's like being entertained by
Sesame Street. What a cheapskate website.

there is nowhere in the story that says he was pushed in so people can be excused if they think he fell in,as it says in the story.
If someone knows he was pushed in ,then they should inform the authorities,as it was a stupid thing to do.

Was he on the parapet when he was pushed?

I don't think anyone wants somebody to get hurt, but when drink is involved people do stupid things. I would suggest that if whilst drunk you can't stop yourself from climbing somewhere unsafe and then someone else feels that pushing someone in an unsafe position is somehow funny then perhaps both of them should refrain from drinking in the first place.

However, it could be that the fact he was under the influence that may well have saved him from more severe injury.
