A CARE home resident sank her teeth into a staff member, broke glass and a table and threatened to burn the place down, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how Emma Louise Jones, 23, attacked Jill Thacker, a senior support worker at Gorse Hill Residential Care Home in the town and caused £220 damage. Staff had had to call police because of her unpredictable behaviour, last December 27.

Jones, of Stephenson Drive, Burnley, admitted assault by beating and damage.

At the time, she had been subject to a conditional discharge for punching a staff member at a previous home. The defendant was given a 28 day curfew, seven days a week, from 10pm to 7am. She must pay £60 compensation.

Alex Mann, prosecuting, said the home was for adults with learning disabilities. Jones was said to have very slight learning difficulties, but also suffered from depression. She had been at the home for a year.

Catherine Fell, for Jones, said: "She was angry with staff on that day.”
