A FUNDRAISING drive to buy a life-changing piece of equipment for two brothers has won support from the community.

The parents, who run Sycamore United junior football team, took it upon themselves to raise money for a special cystic fibrosis vest for one of their players.

Noah McGibbon, eight, who plays for the Burnley team, and his brother Jayden, three, both suffer from the condition.

Parents and friends have come together and have so far raised more than £1,000 for the airway clearance physio vest.

The special top, which costs around £7,000, provides vibrations to the chest wall, reducing the need for intensive and exhausting daily physiotherapy. Families and players have already organised bucket collections and taken part in supermarket bag-packing drives, and they now have some bigger events in the pipeline.

The club has organised a sponsored walk on February 1, when parents will walk from Burnley’s Turf Moor to Accrington Football Club.

They have also arranged an adult football tournament, when teams of 10 from local clubs and business will pay £10 each to take part, and a big fundraising night, which will be held at Rosegrove Railway Club on March 29.

Tickets for the fundraising night are currently on sale, priced at £5 each, and the evening will feature a raffle, auction, a head shave, and live entertainment.

Talks are under way with a number of acts including past stars of The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.

The fundraisers have also secured some exciting prizes to give away on the night.

They have written to football clubs, and have so far received offers of a stadium tour from Manchester City, a signed photograph from Arsenal, and two match tickets from Accrington Stanley.

The boys’ mother, Lisa McGibbon, who lives with her sons in Brunshaw Avenue, Burnley, said she was very touched by the efforts the club were going to.

She said: “I didn’t even ask them to do it, they are just such a good club.

“It’s so small, they have time for every child, and they just took it upon themselves and surprised me.”
