A CYCLING parts manufacturer has entered the record books after supplying components for the fastest bicycle ever.

Hope Technology, in Barnoldswick, made parts for the bike which appeared on the new Guy Martin TV series ‘Speed’ on Channel 4.

The bike was built by Jason Rourke, who runs a cycle shop in Stoke-on-Trent, using various parts developed at Hope’s factory in Calf Hall Road.

A spokesman for Hope Technology said: “This summer we developed a special drivetrain for the custom built Rourke frame.

“We made special cranks, bottom brackets and chainrings for the attempt. The bike also uses our standard hubs, headset and single front brake.

“The bike is now in our reception exactly as it came off the beach after the attempt this summer, hence the rust.”

The bike cost £5,000 to make and entered the record books as motorcyclist and TT racer Martin, from Lincolnshire, pedalled it at 112.94mph earlier this year.

The previous record stood at 83.13mph, set by Dutch cyclist Sebastiaan Bowier, on a pushbike in September this year.

To break the record Martin was towed up to 50mph on Pendine Sands, in South Wales, before he was released and managed to increase the speed to break the record.

The record caps a successful year for Hope Technology, which received a visit from Prime Minister David Cameron in April and in June unveiled plans to build a £2.5million veledrome at their Barnoldswick site.
