THEATRE students at the University of Central Lancashire’s Burnley campus performed Circus of Illusion to children.

The Break a Leg theatre group taught the youngsters how to balance on an imaginary tightrope, ride invisible horses and mime many other parts of a circus performance.

They also took part in a T-shirt decorating workshop, made puppets and created clown faces on biscuits.

At the end of the afternoon, the children showed off their newly learnt skills to parents.

Kate Crane, from St Mary’s CE Primary School, in Rawtenstall, where the activity was held, said: “Yhe Lottery funded Wonderful Things project has given children a chance to experience something unusual, to meet children from other schools, to share their enjoyment with their families.”

“Other activities are planned for the rest of the school year including cookery workshops from January.

“We are now looking for support to continue this work, which is proving very beneficial for local families.”
