A TEENAGE boy has been charged with the manslaughter of a great-granfather who died after being attacked in the street near his home.

David Hutchinson, 63, suffered severe face and head injuries in an assault near his home in Leeds Road, Nelson, on June 15 this year.

He was placed in an induced coma after he was attacked and died in Royal Preston Hospital on July 4.

Known to his friends as ‘Scrapyard Dave’, Mr Hutchinson worked for Pendle Council for 18 years before he retired in 2009.

Mr Hutchinson had initially returned to his home on the night of the attack before he was found unconscious by his housemate, Jason Salisbury, the next morning and taken to hospital.

A 16-year-old boy from Nelson who has been charged with manslaughter will appear before Burnley Youth Court on December 30.

Mr Hutchinson, originally from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, had four brothers, two sisters, two half-sisters, three daughters, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He moved to East Lancashire 25 years ago.
