A BID has been placed by East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group to bring a specialist Parkinson’s nurse to the area.
The move follows the CCG’s first listening event in Rossendale, where a number of people raised the lack of specialist Parkinson’s provision as an issue.
The CCG has since developed an application for funding from the Parkinson’s Society for a specialist nurse to be based in East Lancashire for an initial two-year period.
Dr Mike Ions, Clinical Chief Officer at East Lancashire CCG, said: “We are very hopeful that it will be successful.
“This is an excellent example of listening to what patients and carers want and acting to try and provide it.”
