Equipment amnesty declared at Airedale Hospital

VOLUNTEERS and staff at Airedale Hospital have joined forces to declare a second equipment amnesty in a bid to recover lost wheelchairs, walking frames and other walking aids.

The hospital held a similar amnesty nearly two years ago and hundreds of pairs of crutches, walking sticks, and walking aids worth around £3,000, plus several wheelchairs, were returned during the month-long initiative.

The amnesty is being supported again by the Friends of Airedale, one of the hospital’s charities, and therapy staff at Airedale Hospital. They want people to return any equipment they have may have but do not use, with ‘no questions asked’.

For people who do not have transport to take equipment back to Airedale Hospital, they can call the charity’s patient transport service on 01535 294626.

The amnesty runs until the end of December.

Surely they must have a record of who has equipment? Can they not be contacted? I know of many who have zimmer frames, crutches of all types, sticks and miscellaneous other items that have never been returned and they have never been contacted. Mind you the NHS is very lax when it comes to equipment. A few years ago in order to get 15 zimmer frames picked up from a care home that had closed, I eventually had to write to the Trust's Chief Executive. NO ONE ELSE SEEMED INTERESTED!
