Hollywood beckons for Nelson and Colne College student
A FORMER Nelson and Colne College student has his sights set on Hollywood after landing a place at the prestigious London College of Fashion.
Tyler Potts, a former hairdressing student at Nelson and Colne, is set to embark on a career working with the stars as he starts a degree programme in hair and make-up for film and televison.
Graduates of the elite London college include shoe designer Jimmy Choo, One Direction’s hairdresser Louise Teasdale and fashion designer Malcolm Hall, who made suits for members of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.
Tyler, 22, completed his level one, two and three qualifications at Nelson and Colne and picked up a prize at the college’s annual hairdressing competition for a design based on the movie Avatar.
Tyler, from Nelson, said: “So far I am having a great time in London and I have started my first project which is to create a character relating to ‘Retro-futurism’.
“I feel really lucky to get on to such a fantastic course in London and I hope to be doing hair and make-up for big Hollywood films one day.”
His hairdressing tutor, Sarah Christie, said: “Everyone in the hairdressing department is thrilled for Tyler and think he is very deserving of his success.
“He has shown commitment to the course from day one and is a fantastic role model for other students to show that with hard work, talent and dedication, you can aim very high and achieve what you want to. Tyler is the only person on the highly competitive hair and make-up for film and televison course at the London College of Fashion to have gained entry directly from a hairdressing programme – evidently his skills and persona made him an excellent candidate for this degree programme.”
