Pendle tennis courts set for £17,000 refurbishment
11:00pm Monday 4th November 2013 in News
THE TENNIS courts in Heyhead Park, in Brierfield, are set to be refurbished at a cost of £17,000.
Pendle Council had been looking at ways to improve the condition of the courts after a number of complaints about their condition from users of the courts.
Kieron Roberts, from Pendle Council, said: “The existing tarmac surface on all three courts is adequate and in view of the small amount of capital funding available for schemes like this, we feel that that this should not be included in the refurbishment.
“Previously, we have used traditional tennis posts/nets but as with all other sites across Pendle, we have a constant struggle repairing damaged nets/posts as a result of vandalism and general wear and tear.
“We have recently decided to opt for the installation of steel tennis nets that are new to the market and are being used by a growing number of councils and schools across the country.
“They are vandal resistant, robust, weather proof and bright in colour.”
The refurbishment will be discussed by councillors at Brierfield Committee tomorrow.
