Alastair Campbell: East Lancashire derby policing ‘over the top’
2:53pm Friday 11th October 2013 in News
CLARETS fan Alastair Campbell has blasted policing operations around East Lancashire derby games as ‘over-the-top’.
In a radio interview yesterday the former Labour spin-doctor said that measures imposed on away supporters for the Burnley v Blackburn fixture had ‘got out of hand’.
He said: “The policing around a Burnley Blackburn game now is absolutely ridiculous.
“There’s a Burnley fan who lives just opposite Ewood Park. When we’re playing he has to go to Burnley to get on a coach, where his ticket is on the seat, and get a police escort in.
“When we played Blackburn recently, you go out and the street is kind of open and there’s literally – like you used to see in Belfast – this division of half the stadium that the Burnley fans actually can’t get anywhere near.
“I know the police have got a big challenge but I think it’s gone slightly over the top.”
