East Lancashire teens ignore anti-smoking advice

FEWER than four in ten teens in the North West are deterred from smoking by current cigarette packs, new research suggests.
A cross-hemisphere survey by the British Heart Foundation showed the proportion in Australia, where packs are almost entirely covered by graphic warnings, was 50 per cent. Simon Gillespie, the charity’s chief, said: “The message from our young people in the North West is loud and clear, current health warnings aren’t up to the job and the UK Government must step up and introduce standardised packs.”
Australia has led the way on standardised packs while Scotland and the Republic of Ireland have committed.
