Colne's Natalie Gumede is a Strictly ‘brilliant dancer’
EAST Lancashire’s very own Natalie Gumede stole the show on the opening night of competition in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
The 15 couples performed over two nights, and Natalie was last celebrity to take to the stage in the first group on Friday.
Wearing a dazzling white dress, the 29-year-old from Colne performed a stunning cha cha with her Russian professional partner Artem Chigvintsev.
The pair danced to Rasputin by Boney M, and their performance was met with a standing ovation from the audience.
The judges awarded the couple the highest marks on the night, with a score of 31.
Natalie has already been tipped as a potential winner, and often critical judge Craig Revel Horwood described the former Coronation Street star as a ‘brilliant dancer’ and a ‘front runner’.
Natalie said she was filled with ‘complete terror and nausea’ before the show.
She said: “Live performance is nothing like working in telly. If something goes wrong, you can’t do it again.”
Natalie was criticised for her poor ‘hip action’ but otherwise the judges were very complimentary about the TV star.
Host Bruce Forsyth said: “My goodness, that was absolutely fantastic.”
Judge Bruno Tonioli described Natalie as ‘sexy and sensuous’ and said: “You’re going to go far.”
Head judge Len Goodman said: “It was clean, it precise, it had style and rhythm. Fabulous, well done.”
But Natalie, who was at the top of the leader board at the end of the first night, was pipped to the post as the overall winner by model and TV presenter Abbey Clancy on Saturday night, who, with partner Aljaz Skorjanec, scored 32.
Yesterday, on Twitter, Natalie said: “Looking forward to calming down and getting classy this week with a ballroom number, can @artemchigvintse make me a lady?”
