Horror at threat of fuel rises
2:02pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
RESIDENTS may be set to be hit with another round of fuel bill hikes this winter after seven big power companies prepared to announce increases.
New year bills could soar by up to eight per cent according to energy analysts from the City as executives attempt to maintain profit margins after environmental levies increase.
It is thought that the rises could see customers paying up to an extra £100 a year in bills.
British Gas, one of those expected to make an announcement on the exact price increase after October 2 increased its prices by 6% last November leading to a boost in its latest half year profits by 3% to £356m.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch said: “I am horrified by this.
“I have not been convinved by the comments over the last few months by the energy companies that eco costs are higher thanexpected.
Caroline Flint, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary said: “Soaring energy bills are causing a cost of living crisis.
“Hard-pressed consumers will not understtnad how the energy giants can get away with more inflation busting price rises when they are already making huge profits.”
