Pendle MP welcomes fall in 'NEET' figures
2:55pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed the latest figures showing a fall in the number of 16 to 18 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
Figures for Lancashire released by the Department for Education show that in 2012, the number of those young people not in NEET had fallen from 2,610 to 2,290, meaning 320 young people across Lancashire had been able to secure an education or training place or move into the workplace.
Mr Stephenson said: “These figures show that this Government’s policies towards young people are helping them make the most of the opportunities open to them.
“I will continue to promote the needs of young people in Pendle to make sure that this figure continues to drop in the future.
“We have seen an overall fall in unemployment and the number of apprenticeships double. However, there is no room for complacency.”
