Pendle cancer battler's closest shave
3:44pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
A WOMAN with incurable cancer has shaved her head to raise funds for Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends.
Rebecca Lawrence and her colleague, Chris Rushton, cut off all their hair to encourage people to give to their target of £5,000 for the cancer sufferers support charity.
They raised £865 more than they aimed for, which will be split between the Bosom Friends and Petal, formerly known as Ribble Valley and White Rose Ladies.
Rebecca said: “I was diagnosed with cervical cancer which was treated last year with eight weeks of radical radiotherapy, but has unfortunately now spread to my stomach.
“My cancer is now incurable, but manageable through treatment at the moment.
“My next step is to undergo another long slog of 18 weeks of weekly chemotherapy, taking me up until Christmas.
“I do like to set myself goals and challenges to raise money for charity and decided to shave my head. Both Bosom Friends and Petal are very close to my heart, and I would like to continue to give something back.” To donate to the charities through Rebecca’s webpage, visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RebeccaLawrence.
