Food baskets installed into Blackburn Cathedral
2:51pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
TWO food baskets have been installed at Blackburn Cathedral to help poor and homeless people in the area.
The Dean, the Very Rev Christopher Armstrong, has supported local food banks and says the diocese must help in any way it can.
He said this week: “Shocking figures revealed last month emphasised what we already know in this area. Many schools give free meals to over 30 per cent of their children, three times higher than the national average.
“One basket is for food for the homeless and has to be immediately edible. The other is used to collect tins and dried goods for the food bank.”
The boxes can be found at the rear of the cathedral on Sundays, and donations can be left with vergers or the welcome desk during the week.
