Regeneration of Burnley site makes progress
1:58pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
SOLID progress is being made on redeveloping land around the top of Barden Lane in Burnley, a council chief has insisted.
Coun Howard Baker, housing cabinet member, said he had spoken recently with a new tenant of one of the new houses in Oswald Street, who had relocated there from Abel Street. Demolition work was also expected soon on remaining properties at the top of Barden Lane, which would be replaced by new properties by the council’s local development partner, Gleesons. He told a full council meeting: “I have been told by Gleesons that there is a lot more interest because they are making progress there.”
Coun Baker was speaking after former mayor Coun Roger Frost expressed concerns regarding the pace of regeneration in Daneshouse.
Coun Frost claimed the scheme appeared ‘almost to have come to a standstill’ and sought reassurances that the project was still on track.
