TWO drunken yobs who subjected a man to a vicious attack in a Burnley house after kicking in the front door, have each been locked up for five years.

The town’s crown court had been told how Sean Robinson, 24, and Tom Morley, 20, had set about Philip Bell with a wrench and step ladders to ‘teach him a lesson’ after a two-year Facebook row. They had booted the front door of the property on Kime Street off its hinges and then wrenched off a bedroom door to get to their victim during the terrifying incident, which happened last October 17.

Mr Bell had been in a relationship with one of Robinson's ex-partners, Demi Lord. There had been animosity between the the two men and they had arranged a ‘fight’ at the Tim Bobbin pub.

The victim had turned up, had feared he was going to be outnumbered and went home where the attack happened.

Robinson, of Thompson Street, Burnley, and his co-defendant, of Whitegate Close, Padiham, had each admitted aggravated burglary. Robinson was sent to jail and Morley to a Young Offenders’ Institution.

Sentencing, Judge Beverley Lunt said she had “agonised” over the case, which had worried her. She told the defendants: “Such a violent home invasion has to result in an immediate sentence of imprisonment and it has to be a long sentence.”

The judge said the attack was “significant and savage”, and the pair caused more than 20 separate injuries, which she had seen from the pictures, although she added that the photographs were not very good, so there were no doubt more.

Judge Lunt said: “You used weapons, there was a group, it was a premeditated attack and there was an intention to harm him.

“The injuries were not life-threatening. They were not permanent, but they were very nasty.”
