Burnley actor Alice Barry to host charity auction
12:00pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
SHAMELESS star Alice Barry is swapping acting for auctioning as she gets set to flog a huge collection of country and western memorabilia.
The Burnley-born TV favourite has been invited to host a charity auction on Bank Holiday Monday by Bank Hall Auctions owner Michael Hoyer.
More than 150 items including cowboys, Indians, totem poles and weapons will be up for grabs at the auctioneers, off Colne Road, Burnley.
They have been donated by an Earby woman after the death of her husband earlier this year, although she wished to remain anonymous.
Money raised at the event - which is expected to pack out the auction room - will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
Mr Hoyer, whose firm moved to its Bank Hall Works site three years ago, said the collection represented just half of the enthusiast’s overall haul.
He said: “This man was clearly an avid collector and we’re delighted to be involved in selling it off for a good cause.
“It’s a really interesting collection, mainly dating from the 1970s and 1980s.
“Alice rents some space in the same building as ourselves and was really keen to get involved when she heard about the auction.”
Viewing begins at 8.30am with bidding at 2pm.
