Extra help to revamp Colne shopping arcade
4:36pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
THE redevelopment of a shopping arcade in Colne looks set to be boosted by a £17,000 grant.
An overhaul of Colne Arcade, Market Street, has seen a new confectioners, Gobstoppers, open at the main entrance.
And a new fashion boutique and electronic cigarettes store have also recently begun trading.
The arcade has also seen the return of a cafe.
Now the arcade’s owners have applied to the Colne area committee, chaired by Coun Graham Waugh, for a premises improvement grant.
An estimate of £34,000 has been given for the works, which means that the owners should qualify for a £17,000 handout.
Councillors have now approved the financial assistance package, from a planning improvements fund generated by the Sainsbury’s supermarket development, subject to quotes being provided.
The shopping parade revamp was also praised earlier this year by Coun Paul White, economic regeneration cabinet member.
