Celebrating pride in Brierfield a year on
AN EVENT to celebrate the first anniversary of a project aimed at promoting pride in Brierfield is taking place next week.
Project Pride was funded by the Big Lottery Fund and by Lloyds TSB and is run by the Brierfield Action in the Community (BAIC) group.
Naheed Ashraf, project manager at BAIC, said the project had created stronger and healthier communities as well as imp- roving pride in the area.
“The aim of the event is to celebrate the first year’s work,” he said, “to thank all the people who have participated in Project Pride and the agencies who have supported us.
“Project Pride was developed to build strong, healthier communities and develop a greater sense of community pride through attracting local volunteers into community activities across Brierfield and Reedley.
“Providing opportunities for local people to break down barriers to improve community cohesion through events and workshops and improve their skills and capacity enabling them to do voluntary work and improve their employability.
“The project will also develop and build capacity of young people to become future community champions.”
The celebration event takes place on Wednesday from 10am to 3pm, at the Brierfield Action in the Community offices, in Colne Road.
There will also be an opportunity to volunteer to help out with the project in the future.
