A CAR wash has pledged to install screens to stop passers-by being sprayed with water.

Bosses at the car wash at the former garage, in North Street, Colne, were contacted by Coun Ian Tweedie following complaints from pedestrians. High-pressure hoses were being used to wash vehicles, and accidentially dousing people walking along the pavement outside. The owners have now agreed to put up the guards.

Coun Tweedie said: “It was especially bad in very cold weather, and I am pleased that the owners have responded in a reasonable manner to complaints.

“Some residents complained that the cleaning agents also caused their eyes to sting, so this really is a required measure.”
