Maybe we are the fools...

6:00pm Friday 12th April 2013

I note the media spent time and space on April Fool’s Day trying to establish which news stories from the day before were genuine and which were not.

How about the story that Guy Fawkes is to be rehabilitated and given a posthumous OBE on the grounds that he wasn’t in fact a terrorist but rather he was taking a stand on Parliament’s anti-Catholicism? Or the story that the Queen is to be billed for her unused bedrooms on the grounds that Buckingham Palace belongs to the nation and therefore constitutes social housing?

I still can’t get my head around the fact that the Budget was not an April Fool, with everyone except the Eton and Balliol educated cabinet constituting the fools.
