Padiham man sold ex-partner’s jewellery

AN ‘UNCHIVALROUS’ man sold his former partner’s television and jewellery after she left them at his home, a court heard.

Anthony McKenna, 51, took the property, worth £400, to Cash Converters because he was struggling for money. He gave a false name, but police were able to track him down, Burnley magistrates were told.

McKenna, of Wheat Street, Padiham, admitted theft on or between last December 4 and January 13. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge, with £85 costs, and a £15 victim surcharge.

Daniel Frazer, for McKenna, said he had been a bit down on his luck at the time and had been drinking He said: “What he did with that cash was buy some furniture he could go to sleep on.”
