Police hunt for Colne driver in ‘bright orange car’ after bid to snatch two girls

TWO teenage girls were left traumatised after a man tried to force them into his car.

The man shouted at the girls, both 15, demanding they get into his vehicle.

He then gave chase in his car when they refused and ran away.

Police are investigating the incident in Skipton Road, Colne.

The aunt of one of the victims told of her shock at what had happened to her niece who she fosters.

The 29-year-old said: ”The girls have been left traumatised by the incident.

“It’s so frightening. You don’t expect something like this to happen on your doorstep.

“Anything could have happened to them if he had managed to drag them into his car.”

The incident happened as the girls were walking back from McDonalds on North Valley Road at 8.45pm on Sunday.

They were on Skipton Road, close to Oak Street, when a bright orange car pulled up alongside them and a man shouted at the girls to get in his car.

After the girls refused, he then shouted again. When they ran off, he drove after them.

The frightened girls knocked at a nearby house asking for help and were taken back home by the man who lived there.

The aunt said: ”He had screamed at the girls to get in the car and when they refused he got even angrier and shouted again at them.

“I am very grateful that the man was able to bring the girls home safely.

“They are now scared about going out on their own and I have insisted that they have a mobile with them to be able to contact us if anything like this happens again.

“I have been informed by other people that there have been similar incidents of this happening in the town in the past week.

“I would want parents and guardians to be wary of where children are going and letting them out on their own.”

Police are warning parents to be vigilant and are urging members of the public to come forward with any information.

Insp Phil Hutchinson said: “We’re investigating an incident which has occurred just before 9pm on March 17 on Skipton Road in Colne.

“It’s been reported that a man has approached two girls and asked them to get into his car which is described as being orange.

“This appears to be an isolated incident but we’d appeal to anybody that has seen this vehicle or is aware of similar incidents to contact the police on 101.”

The car is described as possibly being a small Peugeot or Nissan Micra and the girls said the man was in his late 20s or early 30s with short black hair.

Dangerous to assume he must have been either white or asian. Could belong to any ethnic background. It isn't only asian people who have black hair. Also, hair can be dyed any colour as a disguise. It could be argued the vehicle make and model is prevalent among people from the indigenous community. Of course I accept this too is a misleading stereotype. I suggest until the police release any further details we try not to stir any tensions between different ethnicities within the community and keep our comments constructive i.e. what can be done to make our streets safer - as opposed to ignorantly pointing the finger of blame at a whole race based upon fallacious reasoning.

theshuttle, I don't think commenting was suggesting a man of a particular race was involved or trying to stir racial tensions but merely suggesting that this might help find the man a bit more than just a description of a black haired man in an orange car.

Oh, and by the way, chinese people are also considered as asian (east asian) in fact asia is a large continent covering many countries so now who's making assumptions, theshuttle?

Casper's mum if you read carefully you will see that I too only used the word 'asian'.

Have you got any evidence i.e. reliable statistics M Foster? I would like to know what evidence you have that suggests this problem has reached epidemic proportions. For example, what percentage of recorded crime falls within offending of a sexual nature? Is it more prevalent than say drug offences or driving offences or physical asaults of a non-sexual nature or theft or burglary or robberies? Or are you just blowing gas?

I hope you are not suggesting that a whole race is guilty of racial paedophilia.

Well Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent and approximately 60% of the world's population lives there. There are about 50 countries in Asia. Possibly it could have been someone of Asian origin. Jimmy Savile was Asian too I suppose. And all the other people arrested in operation Yewtree. Yep a nasty Asian piece of work each and every one of them. Slight problem you see because all of them look convincingly indigenous. But worry not, clever clogs above tells us that these people are really Asian disguised as indigenous. They must all be Asian because only Asians are paedophiles. Complete creepy rubbish spouted by an ideological bedfellow of Adolf. And if you fall for it you are oh so gullible.

Also, if it had lowered suspension, tinted windows, beads hanging from the drivers mirror, lowered seat with driver hardly able to see over the steering wheel or no seat belt on, belting out alien music, etc.

I was followed by a car through Colne. I was in my own car, and he asked me where Beaufort Street Colne was, I told him I didn't know. He immediately began to demand that I get out of my car and get into his. It was absolutely terrifying. To cut a long story short, he followed me all over Colne. I reported the incident to the police, they came to my home to interview me about it, I gave them the reg plate, make, and model of his vehicle. The police later informed me that they had called at his property and he was out. No futher action was taken. I'm an older female and my heart goes out to these two girls as the man that followed me was VERY dominant and said things such as "just get into the car, what are you thinking, are you afraid that I'm going to abduct you? Rape you? Murder you"? I was frightened to death

M Foster you rely only upon 1 source. Your source is the National Front. A group of individuals openly hostile to non-white races from the moment of their inception, and many years prior to this issue. Your assumption is wrong because your source is not objective but deeply prejudiced, and you have no objective source to rely upon. Do you believe everything that is written online and that you read in the papers? How do you differentiate between what is true and what is not? The only source of data as to what is happening is in the figures. The crucial question is this: What percentage of recorded child sex offences in the past year were committed by Asians? I don't believe you know the answer. Don't expect people to believe you if your assumptions are based upon fallacious lazy arguments that do not stand up to scrutiny becaue they are without any basis in logic. Give us the figures proving what you spout mate and we might believe you. But methinks you don't have the evidence because it does not exist. Are you a member of the National Front? Do you support their policies? Is that what this is all about???

For everyone commenting in a negative manner, please try to apply some intellect and read between the lines:

No full description of the suspect and the police are not asking for witnesses.... maybe they actually have a suspect (possibly in custody), and just maybe due to the girls ages their identities are protected in line with the law. This article concisely explains the incident, which should provide adequate information for possible future victims to be more cautious.

If providing information without jeopordising any possible court proceedings is not up to your reading ability, maybe you should stick to The Sun.

Some people aren't bothered about jeapordising court proceedings. They've already made their mind up. The whole Asian race is responsible, since the dawn of time or whenever they originated. Perverted ideology trying to stoke racial tensions is what it is. Blaming others due to an underlying feeling of worthlessness.
