SWIMMING pool facilities are being refurbished as part of work at two leisure centres.
A total of £420,000 is being spent on improving leisure provision in Pendle.
The swimming pool at West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick will be closed until March 29 as work is carried out on fitting new changing rooms, showers and lockers, with better changing facilities for families and disabled customers.
Paul Whittaker, West Craven centre manager, said: “I know this will cause some inconvenience, but I’m sure customers will agree it will be worth it.
“We are always looking at ways to improve our service and standards to benefit our customers and I’m sure they will see this refurbishment as a significant improvement.”
The pool area at Pendle Leisure Centre will close for the refurbishment work from April 15 until May 27 and will include similar improvements to facilities as West Craven.
Speakman Contractors, based in Billington Road, Burnley, was awarded the £250,000 contract for the work at both centres.
Director Chris Speakman said: “We directly employ a skilled workforce in all sectors of refurbishment.
“This means we can understand clients’ needs at every stage and in detail. It means we can add value, pass on thoughts and ideas based upon experience and expertise, and it means we can control the quality of finish, on time, and to an exceptional standard.”
The contract is part of a £420,000 investment by Pendle Leisure Trust and is expected to be complete by May 2013.
The first phase of the work saw improvents at Pendle Wavelengths, in Nelson, earlier this year.
