Nelson communications giant Daisy is to shed 50 jobs
12:00pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in News
NELSON-based communication giant Daisy is to shed 50 jobs.
The company which employs around 700, and around 1,500 nationwide, has announced that staff in their customer services division will face skills assessments throughout March before redundancies are confirmed.
The firm, which was founded in Lomeshaye Industrial Estate, Nelson in 2001 also has call centres in Loudwater, Buckinghamshire, and Prudhoe, Northumberland.
Bosses at the firm say they will not know until after the assessment period, during which staff face psychometric tests and competency-based interviews, where the redundancies will be, but they are likely to be across all three sites.
Managing director of Daisy Operate, Andrew Fryatt said that the redundancies are not a cost-cutting exercise.
He said: “We have announced a series of changes to Daisy’s Customer Services division designed to provide more focused support for our customers. Throughout March we will be running a programme of employee assessment through our customer services division across sites in Nelson, Prudhoe and Loudwater.
“All those employees affected have been informed, and to manage this process they have been placed ‘at risk’ until the end of the assessments.”
Last year the firm’s centre became a 24-hour operation following its growth.
More than 75,000 business customers are serviced by the provider of broadband, mobile, lines, calls and telephone systems.
In January last year Daisy opened its new 700-capacity office complex, adjacent to its existing premises on Lindred Road.
While last May the firm invested £1million in a bomb-proof data centre inside the former Bank of England bullion vault in Manchester city centre.

Forget all the gobbledeegook and business speak of " psychometric " test, the simple term is called being made redundant ! It's a PR exercise to stop people thinking they,re laying off staff , which is in truth just what they,re doing !
