Reminder to Pendle households to use the right fuel

PENDLE Council’s environmental health team is reminding people who live in smoke-control areas to check they’re using the correct fuel on their open fire or solid fuel appliance.

Coun John David, who looks after environmental health in Pendle, said: “Over the last few years we have noticed a significant increase in enquiries about using solid fuel.

“If you live in a built-up area, it is probably a smoke-control area, and if you live in one, you must follow certain rules to ensure your chimney isn’t giving off smoke. For example, if you have an open fire, you must only burn authorised smokeless fuels.

“Or if you have a solid fuel appliance, you should make sure it is allowed to be used in a smoke control area.”

To find out if you live in a smoke-control area, call Pendle Council on 01282 661199.

I hope the factory units that burn waste wood read this as we as residents are forever complaining about black smoke and rancid smells coming from a furniture factory Top Gates Railway St Nelson.
They burn this fuel after hours and at weekends so the Environmental Officers are not on duty
