Double celebration for Burnley star of TV's Bank of Dave

BURNLEY banking hero David Fishwick has double cause for celebration after his latest TV show drew more than a million viewers - and its predecessor was shortlisted for an award.

His second Channel Four show, Bank of Dave: Fighting the Fat Cats, which followed Mr Fishwick in his battle for approval from the Financial Services Authority, aired last Thursday to rave reviews from critics.

And the first episode of the show, which was screen last July, is in the running for the Nations and Regions Programme prize at the prestigious Royal Television Society awards.

The minibus mogul’s documentary about his low-interest ‘bank’, Burnley Savings and Loans Limited, is up against Scottish Television’s Born to Lose and BBC Two’s The Story Of Wales.

Mr Fishwick said he was ‘humbled’ that the programme was even considered for an award.

He said: “I’m very, very lucky. It’s been amazing to see the support we’ve had from the people of Lancashire and everyone has had very kind things to say about the show.

“It’s been a real team effort in making the programme.

“It’s very surreal to think that this little lad from East Lancashire can be involved alongside proper film stars and national names.

“If I won that would just be amazing but I’m not thinking any further ahead than the fact that it will be a great experience just to be there, representing Lancashire.

“I have very big plans which involve being back on the telly again in the next few weeks so its a very exciting time.”

Saskia Wirth, from Channel Four, said: “The programme was watched by just over a million viewers and the feedback has been brilliant. Lots of viewers think what he’s doing is fantastic.”

Winners will be announced at a ceremony, hosted by comedian Jo Brand, on March 19 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Bank of Dave? He's a top banana, takes on the *ankers and the F.S.A
I would like to bank with Dave, i bet many in Accrington would like to bank with Dave too.
Natwest, Barclays, RBS are a complete waste of time and public money, we bailed them out for them to pay their selves huge bonuses and our elected government let it happen? the system is rotten to the core.
I used to bank with Natwest until they recalled the overdraft, i paid it off the following week and closed my account, i don't need a bank, especially one that treats it's customers like that.
We need a Bank of Dave or Jim or Harry or whoever here in Accrington and put the major banks in their place at the bottom of the heap where they belong.
Good work David Fishwick, wish you and your team all the best for the future, your efforts will be felt throughout the land and beyond, you are about to change banking in the UK forever.
