Demolition plan for Barrowford civic hall

BARROWFORD Civic Hall could be demolished to make way for housing.

Plans have been submitted to raze the building in Maud Street and build three terrace homes.

Pendle Council property management arm Liberata are behind the plans.

In a statement, they said: “The former civic hall building is believed to have been constructed around 1900 as a Primitive Methodist Church. It was extended and converted into a civic hall in the early 1970s.

“The building is not listed and is quite plain in style. It is constructed in stone with a blue/grey slate roof and it has extensions on the east side and a noticeable bow on the west. It was declared redundant about three years ago and has remained empty ever since.”

The hall was closed as part of attempts by Pendle Council to slash £600,000 from the budget in 2010.
