Barnoldswick volunteers give facelift to war memorial
11:21am Wednesday 6th March 2013 in News
VOLUNTEERS from Barnoldswick in Bloom began work to renew shrub beds at the town’s War Memorial last weekend.
Old and overgrown shrubs were removed in readiness for new planting during March.
The work at the memorial is part of a two-year programme of improvements which has already seen a new entrance created into the War Memorial area and will culminate in unrecorded casualites of war being commemorated at the memorial.
Members of Barnoldswick in Bloom volunteered to replant the area with shrubs bought by the town council.
Coun David Whipp, bloom representative, said: “On Sunday, old bushes were moved, cut down or pruned to get the area ready for new planting. Volunteers also planted rose bushes donated from a Barnoldswick garden in town centre beds.”
