Burnley residents urged to think twice about rubbish fires

FIREFIGHTERS have urged residents to think twice about starting rubbish fires after they were called to two similar incidents in the same street over the weekend.

Crews from Burnley were sent to Hurtley Street on Friday at 6.40pm and on Saturday at around 3.25pm after residents called saying they could see flames and smoke coming from houses.

Crew manager Harrison asked people not to start fires in back yards as if they were interpreted as house fires more resources would have to be mobilised. He said: “Our drivers are trained to respond accordingly to an incident.

“If it is a house fire, we will drive at the speed that is recommended for that.

“That means there is a greater deal of risk to our firefighters and the public.”
