BUSINESS secretary Vince Cable believes a developer is doing a ‘fantastic job’ to create a new £10.3million University Technical College at the former Weavers’ Triangle in Burnley.
The top government minister toured the site with Barnfield Construction bosses, council chiefs, Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle, Burnley Council's chief executive Steve Rumbelow and Steve Gray, chief executive of Training 2000.
Following the visit earlier this month, Mr Cable said: “Barnfield are carrying out a fantastic job of painstakingly restoring this significant English Heritage landmark and as it begins to take shape it is once again set to be an extremely impressive building.
“It’s great to see that Burnley is putting itself on the map, especially with a development of this magnitude.”
East Lancashire’s first UTC is being converted from thegrade two former 19th century mill by Barnfield Construction and is the first phase of Barnfield & Burnley Development Limited’s £100 million Masterplan for On the Banks.
The minister is also a strong advocate of the ‘Aerospace Advanced Supplier Park’ plans that Barnfield are proposing for the former Michelin site.
Tim Webber, managing director and chairman of the Barnfield Groups, aid: “There has been a keen interest in the Michelin site already from local aerospace companies.”
