A NURSE accused of eight professional misconduct charges involving residents at a Burnley care home - and calling colleagues ‘dirty bitches’ - is set to face a disciplinary hearing.

On one occasion it is alleged Bilquees Akhtar left one resident at The Grove, in Rosegrove, out of reach of an emergency buzzer, telling her ‘You have done this to yourself, you have put yourself on the floor, you can do more than you are letting on.’ Akhtar, who ceased to be employed by the home in 2010, is now facing a six-day fitness to practice hearing before the Nursing and Midwifery Council in London, starting on March 4.

She is also alleged to have tried to put medication in a patient’s mouth against his will and shouted at him, after first refusing requests from care assistants to deal with the same man.

Akhtar, with another resident, was said to have failed to give a third resident an urgent health assessment.

And with a fourth resident, she is alleged to have only given him half the required dose of insulin, then failing to inform a doctor about what she had done.

Her conduct with a fifth resident is said to have seen Akhtar pushing her outside in a wheelchair, while wearing only her night clothes.

Further charges relating to a sixth resident cover allegations that Akhtar failed to check a residents for injuries after a fall, saying ‘ignore her, get her up off the floor and onto the bed, you'll get no sense from her.’ From the remaining charges, one involves Akhtar allegedly shouting in the face of a resident to take her pills, in another she is said to have told a resident her husband was a ‘pig’, and she was also heard to call colleagues ‘dirty bitches’.

If the case against Akhtar is found proved she could face suspension or being struck off.
