Neighbours evacuated as house in Burnley catches fire

A FIRE inside an empty house could have spread to neighbouring properties, according to firefighters.

Crews from Burnley were called to Barr Street, at around 7.30am yesterday, after residents in adjoining properties noticed smoke coming into their homes. Neighbours were evacuated while firefighters put out the fire, and ensured it had not spread.

Watch manager Steve Harrison said: “We are treating the fire as suspicious and it is being investigated. A small fire was started in the kitchen and smoke spread to two other properties who alerted the fire service. There was nobody in the property at the time. The fire could easily have spread if the neighbours hadn’t smelt the fire.”

Crews were at the scene for around an hour.
